Is There An Alternative To Liposuction?
Millions of people the world over have sought liposuction as a means of sculpting their bodies in the never ending quest for physical perfection. The question is, is there an alternative to liposuction?
Before I can answer that, let us look at the definition of the word 'liposuction'. It comes from the Greek root word lipos, meaning 'fat'.
Therefore, liposuction is the removal of subcutaneous fat (that is, fat underneath the skin) by means of inserting a surgical cannula under the skin and suctioning the fat out.
Common areas for liposuction include the neck, stomach and thighs, as well as the buttocks. Among the types of cosmetic surgery available today, liposuction is the most common. What Are The Risks Of Liposuction? Liposuction is relatively safe, but as with any surgical procedure, there are associated risks. These can include blood clot formation, infection, organ perforation and loss of sensation in the area of the procedure. These complications are, however, quite rare and occur in approximately 1% of cases. Types of Liposuction Currently there are several different liposuction techniques available. My research disclosed the following: Suction Assisted Liposuction - performed under general anesthesia, used less commonly today. Tumescent Liposuction - this is perhaps the most commonly performed technique at present. It involves local anesthesia and is performed on an outpatient basis. Ultrasonic Liposuction - this technique utilizes ultrasound, which acts to break up the fat tissues. This is less invasive than either of the first two procedures listed above. Microliposuction - utilizes tiny incisions and is generally used only on very small areas of the face and neck. An Alternative To Liposuction An obvious response to the question, "Is there an alternative to liposuction?", would be, "Of course there is! Lose weight and exercise consistently." It should be noted that liposuction is never to be viewed as a viable alternative to diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss method. Liposuction could be translated as a method of sculpting, as it is used to shape areas of the body where fatty deposits have built up and caused unsightly bulging. In terms of an alternative to liposuction, we have seen that there are at least two - ultrasound and microliposuction. There are other methods, but these have been called into question and will not be discussed here. Research into an alternative to liposuction yields surprising findings and in fact almost resembles what my grandfather used to call "snake oil salesmen". Not everything you find on the Internet is a safe alternative to liposuction!
